50 years of science and science writing: CASW marks its first half-century

In 2010, CASW commemorated its first half-century. The 50-year celebration included:

  • a gala celebration held in Washington, DC, on April 17, 2010, which brought together journalists, scientists, contributors and guests (at right, Philip Boffey leads a panel including Nobelist Carol Greider, Jane Lubchenco of NOAA, Marcia McNutt of USGS and Harold Varmus; watch the video);
  • a special session, "Solons of Science," on November 8, 2010, at the New Horizons in Science conference in New Haven, Connecticut;
  • a compilation of "50 Science Sagas for 50 Years," which was prepared by Treasurer Alan Boyle and posted here and on the Cosmic Log blog on MSNBC.com, sparking a lively conversation among readers at both sites; and
  • comments, evaluations, observations and reminiscences, including those submitted on this page.
