Biography

Richard T. Schlosberg is the former publisher and chief executive officer of the Los Angeles Times and the immediate past president and CEO of the David and Lucille Packard Foundation, a position he held since 1999. During his tenure, the foundation, one of the nation’s largest philanthropic organizations, made grants totaling over $2 billion to non-profit organizations worldwide. Schlosberg began his newspaper career with Harte-Hanks Communications in 1975. He became president of its newspaper operations in 1980 and served in that capacity until 1983, when he joined the Times Mirror Company and president and CEO of the Denver Post. He moved to the LA Times in 1988. Under his leadership, both the LA Times and the Denver Post garnered many of journalism’s top honors, the Pulitzer Prize among them. Schlosberg is currently a board member of eBay and Edison International. He also serves as Chair of the Board of the Kaiser Family Foundation. A graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, he went on to earn an M.B.A .from Harvard Business School. He served five years as an Air Force pilot and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. In its 50-year history, Schlosberg is one of only 16 graduates who have been honored by the Air Force Academy as a distinguished graduate.
